Bio for Rev. Audrey Banham Smith
Rev. Audrey is a native of St. Paul Minnesota. She is married to Rev. Dr. William H. Smith. They have three children and six grandchildren. She attended Washburn High, but graduated from Burnsville Senior High. She began her collegiate studies at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where she met her husband.
She recently retired from the Department of Community Corrections, where she was a Juvenile Probation Officer with Hennepin County for thirty eight years.
Rev. Audrey felt the call to ministry several years ago and began to consider a call to pastoral care, specifically oriented toward the needs of the clergy and their families. Rev. Audrey acknowledged her call and was granted a license to preach by Presiding Elder Alphonse Reff at the Quarterly Conference held in June of 2009 at Lily of the Valley A.M.E. church in Apple Valley, Minnesota. She was ordained a Local Deacon in October of 2012.
She has been a diligent worker in assisting her husband and pastor at Lily of the Valley AME. Presently she acts as Sunday School Superintendent, Daughters of Judah Women’s Ministry Leader, Co-leader of Wednesday Night Youth Bible Study. She serves on two boards of Christus Victor Lutheran Church where Lily of the Valley meets, continuing the partnership established between the two churches. She helps to facilitate “A Dwelling Place” a ministry of the women of the three denominations that meet at Christus Victor.
In addition to her ministerial duties she is a warm and compassionate 1st Lady for Lily of the Valley. She provides leadership, guidance a very present example of a Christian woman, wife, mother and grandmother. Rev. Audrey is the first 1st Lady for Lily of the Valley AME Church and she sets a high standard for those who will follow in her footsteps.
