In The Beginning…

…was the beginning.  The “In the Beginning Bible Study” was the seed that would become Lily of the Valley AME Church.  Under the direction of Presiding Elder Alphonse Reff, Sr., a group that included Rev. William H. Smith and Rev. Stacey Smith, scouted for a site to begin this mission.   The group met with Pastor Kent Gubrud of Christus Victor Lutheran Church and after several meetings, the joint venture was begun.  September 28, 2006 marked the first meeting of In the Beginning (ITB) Bible Study.   As ITB took root, we branched out the following April 28, 2007 to begin monthly Praise and Worship Services.

On September 9, 2007 the inaugural worship service for Lily of the Valley AME Church was held with 17 members uniting.  Lily of the Valley was officially accepted into the Chicago AME Conference on October 19, 2007 under Bishop Philip R. Cousin, Sr., Presiding Prelate Fourth Episcopal District.  LOV began hosting weekly worship services on November 4, 2007.

Rev. Dr. William H. Smith was officially appointed Pastor of LOV during the Chicago Annual Conference held in October 2008.
We are indeed blessed and humbled by our journey thus far.  Look what God has done, through faith.
